Being over 220 miles from the nearest coastline, the state of Arkansas does not get Hurricanes, as Hurricanes require warm waters to generate and sustain their strength and break up over mountainous areas. This combination of conditions prevents hurricanes in Arkansas. As a result, hurricanes are in usually decaying stages by the time they reach Arkansas, and have typically weakened into tropical storms or remnant low pressure systems.
