Articles about the ancient city of Caesarea Maritima. Originally built by the Straton I and expanded by Herod the Great in about 25–13 BCE, it served as an administrative center of the province of Judaea and later Syria Palaestina in the Roman Empire, and later as the capital of the Byzantine province of Palaestina Prima.
