Asia Business News (ABN) was a business news television channel based in Singapore. A subsidiary of Dow Jones & Company that also owns The Wall Street Journal Asia daily it was the sister network of London-based European Business News (EBN). Its programmes originate from Singapore. It was officially opening ceremony at grand opening or formally opening breakfast in Singapore by President of Singapore Ong Teng Cheong on 1 November 1993 at 6:00am SGT based in Singapore and it operated from ABN's head office and headquarters in Anson Road, Singapore along with CNBC Asia. ABN reached to millionaire hotel, condominium and apartment in all Asia. [1]

Its managing editor was Christopher Graves. [2]

History

Launch

Asia Business News (ABN) launched on 1 November 1993 at 6:00am SGT. It was based at its headquarters in Singapore and business bureaus in Jakarta metropolitan area (including Central Jakarta, West Jakarta, North Jakarta, Tangerang and Tangerang Regency), North Sumatra (expect Karo Regency), Batam/ Batam Islands ( relayed from Singapore and via all Riau and surrounding areas) and Palembang metropolitan area, ABN was owned by Dow Jones & Company.

Anchors/presenters included Coco Quisumbing, Martin Soong, Sydnie Kohara, Karen Koh and Lynette Lithgow. Correspondents Keiko Bang, Lisa Barron, Stuart Pallister, Jim Sciutto and Chris Slaughter were part of the original ABN team which included around 170 Singapore based-staff. The programme line-up included Breakfast Briefing, Asian Wall Street Journal on Air, Trading Day, Asia Market Digest, Storyboard, Far Eastern Economic Review on Air, Money Talk, dot.com and Corporate Raiders.

Becomes CNBC Asia

On 1 February 1998 at stroke of midnight SGT the channel merged with NBC's CNBC Asia. Initially, most of ABN's programmes and presenters migrated to the new channel and it operated from ABN's former headquarters in Singapore. [3] [4] CNBC Asia and Asia Business News officially merged channel launched and was officially merged into CNBC Asia Business News. On 1 July 1998 at stroke of midnight SGT, CNBC Asia Business News was officially merged into CNBC Asia.
