Aoki Shigeyoshi (青木重義, February 9, 1853 – October 27, 1884), was a daimyo (feudal lord) in the late Edo period of Japan. He was the 14th (and final) lord of the Asada Domain in Settsu Province. After the Meiji Restoration, he was granted the title of Viscount. [1] [2] [3]
Biography
In 1853, Aoki Shigeyoshi was born as the fifth son of the 11th lord of the domain, after his retirement. At the age of 4, Shigeyoshi became the head of the clan in 1856 after the death of his adoptive father. He died two years later in 1858. In 1868, Shigeyoshi showed support for the new government and was appointed as Minister of the Ministry of the People. In 1869, he became the governor of the Asada Domain and made changes to the domain school. There was also a tenant farmer dispute in the domain's territory. In 1871, he was dismissed from his position as the head of the domain due to the abolition of the domain system. In 1884, Shigetatsu became a viscount but died at the age of 31. His adopted son, Nobumitsu, succeeded him.
