As punishment for
hooliganism from Ajax supporters,
UEFA ordered a temporary relocation of Ajax's home matches, requiring them to be played at least 200 kilometers away from
Amsterdam. As a result, for the first three rounds of the competition, Ajax played their 'home' legs at the
Rheinstadion in
Düsseldorf, Germany.[1][2][3] Despite this disadvantage, the Dutch side were still able to qualify for the final without ever truly facing serious threat of elimination.
