Nominator's rationale: A recently created category, it is unnecessary because there are very few (if any) states that could be described as "neo-fascist", those that can should simply be placed on the original category. -- 2804:248:FBE5:1D00:8D4A:4D8D:9DCE:E108 ( talk) 23:21, 19 September 2022 (UTC) reply

Nominator's rationale: This deserves at the very least a renaming (to, say, Category:Marina Malls) but I don't really see the point. These are just shopping malls that happen to share a name and, presumably, the property of being close to a marina (although that does not seem to be the case for Marina Mall Accra or Chennai Marina Mall). Nominator's rationale: Main article renamed to Armenian–Azerbaijani war (1918–1920) DuncanHill ( talk) 18:12, 19 September 2022 (UTC) reply
  • Rename per nom. Tehre have been two post-Soviet wars that the current name could refer to. Peterkingiron ( talk) 19:03, 19 September 2022 (UTC) reply
  • Rename not per nom but to Category:Armenian–Azerbaijani War (1918–1920) as Pichpich correctly observed. I have tagged the child category and grandchild category too, though I would suggest upmerging these per WP:SMALLCAT (or rename if kept). Marcocapelle ( talk) 00:39, 20 September 2022 (UTC) reply

Nominator's rationale: 'Country' can mean anything, see Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of non-sovereign countries. Remove England, Scotland and Wales, all the rest are dependent territories. Privybst ( talk) 15:37, 19 September 2022 (UTC) reply
Keep Non-sovereign country is clearly defined in the category page and the page List of non-sovereign countries Titus Gold ( talk) 16:19, 19 September 2022 (UTC) reply
This should probably be decided after we get a result from Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of non-sovereign countries. If it indeed results in deletion, I support the merge. Pichpich ( talk) 18:31, 19 September 2022 (UTC) reply
  • Delete, this covers grey area that can better be dealt with in a list (in which details can be elaborated), not so much in a category which only offers inclusion or exclusion. For example Curaçao is that a non-sovereign country or a dependent territory? There is no definite answer to that question. Marcocapelle ( talk) 21:02, 19 September 2022 (UTC) reply
  • I notice now that the list is probably going to be deleted soon. If even a list is not viable, then a category is even less so. Marcocapelle ( talk) 00:03, 20 September 2022 (UTC) reply
  • Delete and do not merge. Dependent territory has some definition, even if it gets really fuzzy at its edges. Non-sovereign countries is simply vague, and not remotely a defining characteristic ( WP:CATDEF). CMD ( talk) 05:05, 20 September 2022 (UTC) reply
  • Delete and do not merge despite the creator's claim, there is no clear definition of the contents of this. The phrase being referred to is presumably recognised as countries but do not hold supreme sovereignty, but the phrase recognised as countries is meaningful only if "country" means sovereign state, and that's explicitly ruled out by the second half of the definition. The definition of a dependent territory, as CMD says, gets fuzzy around the edges, but in most cases it is clear whether an entity meets the definition or not. And several of the entities in this category are clearly not dependent territories. Kahastok  talk 07:20, 20 September 2022 (UTC) reply

Nominator's rationale: delete, not a defining characteristic. The term Mauritanian Moors is presumably meant to refer to the Arab-Berber part of the population but they are the majority anyway (~70%). Marcocapelle ( talk) 07:02, 3 September 2022 (UTC) reply
Keep -- Moors is the name used for the Arab-Berber "white" population (also known as Bidhane in the local Hassaniya Arabic dialect). Although it's more common in French, it's not rare to see it in English productions about the country. I think that keeping it does no harm :) Tidjani Saleh ( talk) 18:11, 4 September 2022 (UTC) reply

  • None of these examples is fictional, so they do not seem very relevant in this discussion. Marcocapelle ( talk) 19:07, 6 September 2022 (UTC) reply
  • We would be narrowing the scope of the category tree by excluding any articles on fiction about astronomical locations that are not celestial bodies. Arthur C. Clarke's "The Sentinel" is set in Tycho Crater, and not the entire Moon. There are stories already out there written about specific extraterrestrial locations that are not just a generic setting on a celestial body or several parts of one, but about a specific place. Similarly there is a lot more fiction about non-terrestrial locations which are fictional that don't cover entire selestial bodies or several parts of one. The first category in this nomination is about fiction about locations, which would deal with real places. The second category in this nomination is about fictional ones, such as found in many a short story in the standard scifi pulp magazines (ie. Asimov's, Analog). Though instead of "astronomical" perhaps it should use "space", because of the fictional aspect -- 64.229.88.43 ( talk) 03:18, 7 September 2022 (UTC) reply

The result of the discussion was: delete. (non-admin closure) Qwerfjkl talk 17:13, 27 September 2022 (UTC) reply
Nominator's rationale: Precision, NPOV, and naming consistency per WP:CATNAME. 'Fined' is ambiguous and inaccurate as these are civil, not criminal penalties, and 'fine' is more generally used for criminal penalties in the UK, and 'fine' is not used in the article - it is always 'fixed penalty notice'. 'Scandal' is subjective. Other similar categories use 'Recipients of something' rather than 'People who had something done to them'. -- DeFacto ( talk). 06:47, 2 September 2022 (UTC) reply

  • Is this category necessary at all? It seems a very narrow topic, also considering that it does not concern a criminal offense. Marcocapelle ( talk) 07:43, 2 September 2022 (UTC) reply
  • Delete as WP:NONDEFINING. If kept, the proposed new name is better than the current name. Joseph 2302 ( talk) 11:16, 2 September 2022 (UTC) reply
  • Delete Does not seem definint. If kept, would prefer Category:Recipients of a fixed penalty notice related to Partygate to match the name of the article. * Pppery * it has begun... 00:14, 3 September 2022 (UTC) reply
  • Delete - I'm persuaded too that, per WP:NONDEFINING, it is non-defining. -- DeFacto ( talk). 15:53, 3 September 2022 (UTC) reply
  • Keep and rename as proposed. I'm amazed anyone who follows British politics at all can regard this as non-defining. Do any of those calling it non-defining in fact live in the UK or follow things here? There are over 100 people potentially in this, but most are a) so far not notable, and b) it is so far unknown who received many of the penalties. The category will probably expand, and this will follow recipients for the rest of their careers. Johnbod ( talk) 16:06, 3 September 2022 (UTC) reply
  • I am not as convinced that the category will expand, or that this will follow recipients for the rest of their careers. In any case these are matters of crystal balling. Marcocapelle ( talk) 05:50, 12 September 2022 (UTC) reply
  • Rename -- The title should be shorter. Category:People fined for Partygate affair might do. The full explanation can go in a headnote. I am not wholly clear, but the penalty notices were issued by the police and appeal would be to the magistrates court, not the county court or a tribunal. This is much what happens with minor motoring offences. Yes, they are technically not treated as criminal convictions, but I do not think they have been decriminalised in the way that parking enforcement has been. • Delete as non-defining. Pichpich ( talk) 18:44, 19 September 2022 (UTC) reply
  • Delete SMALLCAT: Partygate has been a big political issue in UK, ultimately ending in the resignation of the Johnson government. However, the names of the offenders (mostly civil servants) have not been publicly named. Thus we have only four names in the category. The article mentions one more person who has no article but 126 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued to 83 people. So, there are 78 people who might be in the category, but whose names have not been published. There is thus no prospect of the category being properly populated. The known FPN recipients are all named in the article. I am thus concluding that this is not something useful to have as a category, unless a full list of FPN recipients is published, which is unlikely. Nominator's rationale: To match parent Category:Set indices on storms, following renaming of subcats at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2022 September 1#Tropical storm "disambiguation" categories. – Fayenatic London 16:12, 10 September 2022 (UTC) reply
  • @ R'n'B: did you intend some distinction by renaming those subcats as "set index articles" rather than "set indices" like the higher categories? If not, they could be added here and renamed again. – Fayenatic London 16:12, 10 September 2022 (UTC) reply
    • I did not intend any distinction. Either form appears correct to me; "set index articles" is perhaps more accessible to the casual reader, but "indices" works too. -- R'n'B ( call me Russ) 19:26, 10 September 2022 (UTC) reply
  • I have changed the proposal to "set index articles", as the main explanatory page for that is Wikipedia:Set index articles, and as you say it is more easily understood.
