re: Per newpages...

Thanks for the barnstar! Yesterday I created my 4,000th article. Lugnuts ( talk) 14:29, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

I personally am not comfortable deleting it, because there is a direct claim to notability (which technically circumvents {{ A7}}), and since the subject is from a foreign language source, it's likely going to be more difficult to source this for the English Wikipedia. I'd give it a bit more time than a standard English-language entry. If they make no more edits to it, then prod it. IF that doesn't work, do some due diligence searching, and see if you can't find anything about the subject yourself, and then if nothing, take it to AfD. Cheers! -  CobaltBlueTony™  talk 15:10, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Hey Ceranthor, this is IMatthew ( talk · contribs), co-coordinator of the WikiCup; just informing you of the Featured List contest, starting this coming Friday. Quick question

I was just checking out your bragsheet. You have Oort Cloud listed as a featured article you contributed to significantly ("pretty substantial"). What work did you sinificantly contribute to it (i.e writing content)? I could only find examples of wikilinking and captioning etc. Just wanted to see an example of your own work. Seraphim♥ Whipp 13:48, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Same with Scattered disc and Neptune? Seraphim♥ Whipp 13:58, 6 October 2008 (UTC)
Replied at talk, changes made. ;) — Ceran thor [Formerly LordSunday] 20:32, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Likewise with King Arthur. I note you made seven edits to that page. There are over fifty others who made more edits than you. I made 139 (the second highest number), and even so don't put it on any braglist (mostly because I didn't do any actual research for the article). Your list is misleading at best. -- jbmurray ( talkcontribs) 20:38, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Or to put it more positively, to include King Arthur, Neptune, or William Shakespeare (where your contributions were even more marginal) really devalues your contributions when you are a major contributor, as at Mount Baker. I checked out your contributions to a few articles and thought you were completely making them all up, until I looked at what you'd done to Mount Baker, where you do seem to be the prime mover, at least in terms of edit count. In short, such a padded braglist (like a padded CV) hurts more than it helps. -- jbmurray ( talkcontribs) 20:51, 6 October 2008 (UTC)

Tired and resting

Hi LS/Ceranthor,

  • I saw this. We do need valuable contributors such as yourself. I say that even though I've corrected you and even tangled with you (though mildly) over an incident in which you and I didn't see eye to eye. Becoming a regular/committed Wikipedia editor is often a process that has several stages, very much like moving to a new country and experiencing culture shock. Both can involve:
  1. an initial "honeymoon" period of excitement
  2. an accumulative period of rejection of the new environment. The new environment seems increasingly alien and poisonous; "homesickness" arises from a longing for the old environment.
  3. a transitional period of negotiation, during which you take some new things from your environment and absorb them into yourself, and others you decline to absorb, but (hopefully) you do so in a manner that respects others
  4. a later period of equilibrium and balance.
  • I hope I'm not offering unwanted observations, but it appears to me that you may be in stage #2. I hope you get rested up and return with renewed energy.
  • Ling.Nut ( talkWP:3IAR) 08:00, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
Ling, I've never tangled with you. During 1964 Gabon for E I disagreed with you, but I came to realize what you were doing was best. I'm not gone, I'll still be doing patrol and maintenance work, but my pride has been damaged permanently. I don't know if I'll ever write an FA or even contribute ever again. — Ceran [speak] 11:25, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
Pride? <blink, blink> There should be a safety valve between your pride and the outside world. I'm not saying that you should be completely impervious to input from the outside world; I'm saying you should quarantine it for evaluation before you let it into your heart. Reasons:
  1. Sometimes people say things that you may believe are harsh, but they actually aren't. I suppose in the case of ambiguous remarks you do a reality-check and ask if they are criticizing you. Or perhaps you just shrug and let it go.
  2. Sometimes people say things that actually are harsh, but the comments are directed at something you've done, not at you as a person. In that case you just shake it off and try again.
  3. Sometimes people say things that actually are harsh, but are full of horse crap. In that case you grin and ignore it.
The whole process involves different layers of filters, and you examine the input and sort it accordingly into REJECT:MISUNDERSTANDING, PARTIAL ACCEPT:GOODFAITH ADVICE and REJECT:BULLSHIT categories. But you never let the words of any human being have access to the FULL ACCEPT:GOSPEL TRUTH level. Everyone is flawed; no one is God. ;-) Ling.Nut ( talkWP:3IAR) 13:15, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

I understand completely

I only wish I had your willpower. :-) Serendi pod ous 08:38, 12 October 2008 (UTC)

I have a hope

that you will return after the rest; your contributions to wikipedia were really significant. And, please, do not take what happens here to close to your heart—it is only way to remain sane in the face of all bickering that can be found on the pages of wikipedia. My favorite color is red, FYI. Why are you taking article writing a break, anyway? If anything, it's the meta discussions/ANI/FRA/etc. that escalate drama, not article writing. I noticed you did create 1997 Qayen earthquake - good work, try shooting for a DYK! ~one of many editorofthewikis ( talk/ contribs/ editor review)~ 17:01, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
Actually, I only like Papyrus for my sig, not for long blocks of text. Why did you (supposedly) take a break from article writing again? And why do you think SandyGeorgia has a vendetta against you? ~one of many editorofthewikis ( talk/ contribs/ editor review)~ 17:13, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
My userpage is fine as it is. You can touch it up a bit, but I think it's pretty decent. Lrt me be exteemely frank about this: userpage designing is very low on the grand scheme of things. I imagine less than one percent of casual readers will even glance over userpages or derive any type of information from them. What we are here to do is expand, correct, ref, and generally clean up articles that they will be looking at. Metapedian things like this distract us from our real goal: to help that child in Africa learn enough to escape the poverty and corruption of his/her homeland. Also, Sandy does treat everyone as equal, and what you are referring to (I think) is when she fairly criticised telling me to nom an article for GA just so you can pass it. I have a great amount of respect for you, but that was simply unacceptable. ~one of many editorofthewikis ( talk/ contribs/ editor review)~ 17:23, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

2003 Bam

Sorry, but it's nowhere near good article status. It needs a huge expansion and probably a good copyedit first. The A5 criterion

The speedy deletion criterion A5 is only for articles that have already been transwikied. Now I doubt that Hub hub will last much longer on Wiktionary than as a prodded article on Wikipedia. Unfortunately, there is no speedy deletion criterion that applies to neologisms (except in the case of pure vandalism), so I started a deletion discussion. -- Blanchardb - MeMyEarsMyMouth- timed 20:30, 1 November 2008 (UTC)

RE: Your signature -

I believe my signature and its related coding does not fall under the forbidden category you linked to me. I believe that my signature code is not over 255 character after the substitution, but also that the code would not work if I were to use it raw. Thus I shall not be altering my signature. Multiple FAR nominations

Please see the WP:FAR instructions and refrain from overburdening FAR with more than one nom at a time; in particular, multiple nominations in the same topic area overburden the small group of editors who may be able to improve those articles. SandyGeorgia ( Talk) 14:39, 2 November 2008 (UTC)
