This template is too large and gives almost no information. Who will recognize a the Secretarys of State by their last name? Isn't Template:Succession box enough? This is just clutter.-- Birgitte§β ʈ Talk 20:54, 12 January 2006 (UTC) reply

This template is identical to templates used for all the other cabinet secretaries. Along with Presidents, VPs, and many others. — Mark Adler (markles) 22:23, 12 January 2006 (UTC) reply
Well I guess it could be worse. I just looked at John M. Clayton and the template for him be being a Senator from Delaware is worse. I just think these political templates are getting out hand. Succesion boxes should be enough with a big table with more information available at the article for the office. Elizabeth I doesn't have a big Monarch of England template and the names on that would actually be recognizable.-- Birgitte§β ʈ Talk 14:02, 17 January 2006 (UTC) reply

Hi. Please complete the full year 1789 in the section head, so it reads: 1781-1789, per Wikipedia style for non-consecutive years. Thanks. Randy Kryn ( talk) 11:24, 23 August 2020 (UTC) reply

Please remove "([[John Kerry's tenure as Secretary of State|tenure]])", which unlike the other Tenure links is a redirect and not needed. This should probably be unprotected or un-fully-protected, doubt the Clinton issue from 2016 needing a blanket lock-down persists. Reywas92 Talk 01:36, 15 January 2021 (UTC) reply

FWIW: The redirect leads to a section of the page, so it has a different target from the main "John Kerry" link. This is just an explanatory note; I have neither objection to nor support for any change. – Jonesey95 ( talk) 01:49, 15 January 2021 (UTC) reply
Yes I think pretty much every one of these people has a section in the article specific to their time as SoS, no reason for just Kerry to have one. Reywas92 Talk 19:43, 15 January 2021 (UTC) reply

Since we already have links to tenure pages, I suggest adding international trip pages to their respective secretaries as well. The formatting might have to be tweaked, but it would look something like this:

Done – seems uncontroversial enough. If other editors object they can revert or discuss it further here. P.I. Ellsworth ,  ed.  put'r there 19:07, 21 June 2022 (UTC) reply
