Political Prisoner as Legal status?

Political prisoners are rarely accorded seperate legal status to other prisoners, although they may be recognised as such by other governments/organisations, it seems unlikely that their 'hosts' would designate them as such. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.84.88.51 ( talk) 16:08, 5 June 2009 (UTC) reply

This list isn't just what the 'host' nation designates them as, but it also inculdes what other governments/organisation designates them as. ThinkingTwice contribs | talk 22:20, 15 August 2010 (UTC) reply
This is for legal terms for persons. Detainee is one, prisoner is one, but "political prisoner" is a subjective nonlegal term. Most of the "political prisoner" designations come from guerrilla movements or sympathetic rights organizations, not foreign governments, who are rightly more conservative about the term, because at the heart of the term you are challenging the host country's legal system.
