The first paragraph of the basic article is entirely false. No munitions are currently stored there. I know. I worked there.

A fine start. Should it be made more explicit when & why the arsenal was brought back into use following the Civil War? The intro states when and why the contents of the arsenal were moved to Illinois, but not when they were moved back. LordAmeth 14:51, 5 February 2007 (UTC) reply

I undid a recent major anonymous revision here as it appeared to be inflammatory in tone/bordering on vandalism that was repeated elsewhere. Examples are: "The cruel actions of General Lyon were considered a brutal and treacherous form of open Union oppression" "General Lyon's army then returned, formed a military junta and installed a pro-union governor" and others.

There were also several unsupported/unreferenced assertions that appear highly dubious such as: "Lyon was personally cut down by one of Governor Jackson's officers" and "In reply, Lyons released arms from the arsenal to the mostly foreign born and radical abolitionist German community and raised an armed German mob to supplement his smaller Federal forces."

Then there is the completely false: "General Lyon then escorted the prisoners through the pro-Union German community who began firing and killing the prisoners. Americans who came to the rescue were then gunned down outright by the German-Union troops leaving at a minimum some 35 Americans murdered and at least 90 wounded"

Lyon also was not promoted until May, unlike the revisions referring to him as general in April.

There might very well be pieces that should be reinserted, but I found so many errors and distortions along with the inflammatory tone that I undid it. Red Harvest ( talk) 03:33, 15 January 2008 (UTC) reply
