Canada

I took out references to Canada. The content doesn't all apply to all Canadian provinces, in my view. For instance, in Alberta, a school operated by a Separate Catholic school district, would not be called a "public school" (even though the district and school share many attributes of a "public" school). Ultimately, it would be good to mention Canada, but only if its done more clearly. I don't see the point of specifically mentioning Canada, unless the article discusses Canada specifically. Other countries with school districts aren't mentioned by name, and there's no special reason to mention Canada. -- rob 04:31, 14 October 2005 (UTC) reply

Then this article should be moved to School Districts in the United States, otherwise it doesn't reflect wikipedia's global outlook. -- TheMightyQuill 15:02, 23 May 2006 (UTC) reply
Why United States? I say change that section to “North America” and add Canada. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.158.101.14 ( talk) 20:12, 25 June 2019 (UTC) reply

School districts and integration

I've been told that in some places, school districts were set up separately from local governemnts in order to somehow circumvent integration laws, busing, etc. I don't see how such a loophole would be possible, but has anyone else heard this? While it is hearsay, I have heard it more than once (about different places), but no one was able to offer specific info. If it's true then it's worth mentioning in the article. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 06:35, 25 November 2005 (UTC) reply

School District Numbering/Classification

In some states, school districts are numbered. For instance, "Greenwood Local Schools No. 259". Why is that? What does this mean? Some school districts are also "Consolidated", "Unified" or "Exempted Village" school districts. It seems like we should have, perhaps, a section for each state that discusses the state terminology. In some states, school districts are also county-based (Florida, Georgia, Maryland etc.), while others are based on townships/cities or are entirely autonomous of any governmental unit. There seems to be so much difference from one state or province to the next and it's all very confusing. But very interesting, too.

School District Infobox

Someone make one! There are at least a couple hundred pages that could use it. -- Notmyhandle 07:22, 30 November 2006 (UTC) reply

British Empire

The entire British Empire section is lifted from http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/Leducation70.htm, including the mysterious "Marylebone" in the middle of the final sentence. I think this needs to be rewritten to avoid plagiarism. 75.61.93.97 ( talk) 15:50, 22 December 2007 (UTC) reply

Limited to USA

As the tags on the article suggest, this article seems to essentially cover school districts in the USA and only in the USA. Reading the discussions above, I wonder if the best approach would be, rather than to expand this article to a worldwide view, to simply retitle it to School district (United States) or something similar, and cover equivalents in other countries in other articles. Heimstern Läufer (talk) 04:08, 7 May 2008 (UTC) reply

I agree; however, a short remark to similar approaches in other countries (or that such do not exist in general as separate legal entities) may be appropriate. Meerwind7 ( talk) 18:30, 16 November 2018 (UTC) reply

School district number 184

Can someone please tell me where school district #184 is located in the United States? Myramonroe ( talk) 14:52, 22 June 2009 (UTC) reply

Funding of School Districts

I suggest to include more information about the funding of school districts in the US, e.g. what value are school taxes based on (e.g. a fixed proportion of income?), different tax rates within states and among states, proportional or progressive rates, differences expenses per inhabitant and per pupil, maybe also about the situation in senior-citizen areas like Sun City. Meerwind7 ( talk) 18:28, 16 November 2018 (UTC) reply

If we do that, we shouldn't forget state and federal aid. In Maryland, for example, state aid accounts for 48% of school funding overall and 70% or more in some political subdivisions. Federal aid is much smaller but non-negligible. Doctor Whom ( talk) 16:50, 25 March 2021 (UTC) reply

Zoning or Assignment to Primary Schools

The concept that "residents are zoned" and assigned to some particular elementary school is not something the term "school district" covers, but a reference to this approach should be inserted. Meerwind7 ( talk) 18:34, 16 November 2018 (UTC) reply

La Habra School District Inherited AUHSD Curriculum

La Habra will be inheriting the Anaheim Union High School District's K-12 Curriculum. Any "undertoe" education programs involving "Autism", or "Education Undertoe Violence" will be investigated and heavily interrogated for curriculum itinerary reroutes.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:8000:f3f:3b3a:acf3:8338:f22c:40c7 ( talk) 05:41, 14 September 2021 (UTC) reply

What does that have to do with improving the article? Please see Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. Doctor Whom ( talk) 21:22, 15 September 2021 (UTC) reply

Should the article be merged with school district? It overlaps ( WP:MERGE) and be adequately explained in this article. I think I could've just done it (WP:BOLD) but I'm quite inexperienced regarding this stuff. {{u| Abillionradios}} { Static} 00:53, 20 October 2021 (UTC) reply

Since school redistricting has more to do with the operation of the schools themselves and with their catchment areas than with school districts as a level of local government, I think we should at least consider merging that article with either State school or Catchment area instead. Was it a glitch?

I made an edit to the page recently, changing the short description--previously it was one about eating feces.

Or so I thought, because apparently that revision never existed. I didn't mean to change anything, I thought I was fixing vandalism. Race To Oblivion (ネザーへのハイウェイ) ( talk) 01:28, 18 April 2023 (UTC) reply
