If we know that he is of very mixed origins, then we definitely cannot assert that he was born a creole. Let us remember that Latin American creoles are those of completely European descent.

A search of name origin shows the name Pico originates in northern Italy during the 6th century AD. It originally meant man from Picardy, a region of what is now France. It is first mentioned in the Italian town Treviso in Venetia. Most likely the first Pico travelled to Italy via ship. Later members of the family immigrated from Italy to Spain and then to the new world.

In the "Business Life" section the second paragraph begins, "By the 1850s Pico was one of the richest men of Mexican Alta California." By 1848, Mexican Alta California was the US territory of California. So either the date is inaccurate (should be 1840s, or even 1830s?), or "Mexican Alta" is an incorrect descriptor for California here. Przip ( talk) 14:54, 24 May 2008 (UTC) reply

The new photo of Pio Pico in the Medical history section includes the date of 1848. This is a common error and should be changed to the correct date of 1858. I have an exact copy of the original image granted to me from the Bancroft Library to permit our publication of the medical history of Pio Pico which was the basis for the Wiki entry of his medical history (reference #3). Just beneath his oval image and sadly, cut off from the Wiki published picture, is the inscription, “Don Pio Pico – 1858.” If you go to the original web site for this photo, http://www.oac.cdlib.org/ark:/13030/tf5v19p1bx/

and enlarge the image you will see exactly what I am describing. The notation in the url figure title, “in the style of 1848” refers to something about the style of the image that was taken but has nothing to do with the date of the image. This error is critically important to the medical history and needs to be changed. I wanted to avoid conflict as much as possible so I thought it would be best to bring this topic to the discussion/talk page first before changing the error. I look forward to a reply from someone about this and would appreciate some guidance about exactly how to change the error if this point is accepted. Per WP:NOTQUOTE, If you want to enter lists of quotations, put them into our sister project Wikiquote. So, I have removed the quotes in the quote section, which, although sourced and apparently interesting, can go into a new entry in Wikiquote with a link back to this article. I just removed 2 categories pertaining to his death as there is no info on this point in the article. I presume the cause of death was recorded, so perhaps one of the regular editors could add a sentence about this...
