I was about to put this map in the article, but I noticed that text says there are registered sites in all counties but one. There are several counties on this map that do not show sites. The source of the data, cited on the image page, is ftp://msdis.missouri.edu/pub/state/st_nat_reg_sites.zip. The metadata says that the geographic data was compiled by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Division of State Parks, State Historic Preservation Program as "Site resources certified by The National Park Service as included on the National Register (NR) of Historic Places". Does that mean only sites managed by the DNR? I glanced through the data and didn't think that to be the case -- there are office buildings and churches that wouldn't seem likely to be state-managed properties. I wouldn't recommend adding this map to the article unless it can be shown to be an accurate representation of the sites the article attepts to catalog. Hey, great job locating or creating this map. Was the image created by you? If so (meaning if there is no copyright issue with the state, if it had created the map image), then by all means this should be added to article. The coordinates are available for most but not all NRHP-listed sites, so there easily could be some counties missing dots. Also most NRHP-listed places are privately owned, but each state has an office of historic preservation which processes NRHP applications, so the Missouri state department would indeed have the information about all of the Missouri ones. Really great work, Kbh3rd, this image is the first like that covering all or most of NRHP listings for any U.S. state! Erp! I didn't see the response to my question, posted just hours after its posing. This map is unencumbered as documented on its description page. I.e., it is created entirely by me using unencumbered data and is availble with the Wikipedia-compatible license(s) given. That said, I don't know if its worth adding to the article now since it already has the addition of the really swell map by 25or6to4. -- Kbh3^rd talk 06:07, 6 May 2010 (UTC) reply

Missouri's long had letter-group lists: A-B, C, D-I, etc., because it has so many counties. However, counties in many states get their own lists if they have five or six listings, so I'm splitting out counties in groups by number (all the tens, all the nines, etc.) until there are few enough left that all the leftover counties can go onto a single list. Right now, with separate lists for all counties with nine or more sites, there are 300 sites in the leftover counties. Removing the counties with eight will make it 252 sites; cutting the sevens leaves 203; cutting the sixes leaves 155; and cutting the fives leaves 110.
