This February, the Vistra Moss Landing battery storage was turned on (a few months behind the December 2020 goal.)

in at two places the moss landing article gives a capacity (energy quantity) in MW instead of MWh. I would appreciate someone correcting this.

Capacity (energy storage) is a quantity of energy; electrically the appropriate unit is watt-hours, while a rate of use transfer conversion, etc. is simply watts. Please don't confuse. Note: a watt is a joule/second. while a watt houre is a J/s. times 3600 seconds.. So the seconds cancell leaving joule(s) a unit of energy. I don't know specifically WHICH occurrence of MW you are talking about, but electrical generation capacity is in MW. See nameplate capacity, for example. Additionally, battery installations are also rated in nameplate capacity, as in how much they can deliver, generally for about 4 hours max. Grid storage is not stated in MWh of energy stored, when you see it talked about in news articles; this may be your confusion. It has recently become my weekly commute to pass by this facility via highway 1. Visible from the street, there are heaps of concrete rubble and various debris at it’s base making the facility look like an abandoned wasteland. From some quick searches, I was able to see that it used to look clean and tidy at the base as recently as 5 months ago, but was not able to find a cause for its current appearance. The white buildings and surrounding concrete walkways seem to have been demolished, leaving the pipework visible from the street. If anyone has any information about a demolition project or some other event that caused this, please update the article or reply here.
