कमला vs कमल

It must me noted that

  • कमल (Spelled in English as Kamal or Kamala) is masculine. It does mean the lotus (flower).
  • कमला (Spelled Kamala, Kamla or Kamalaa) is feminine. Literally it means "of/associatd with the lotus. It implies a goddess sitting/standing on the lotus, in Hinduism, Buddhism or Jainism. See for example, examples from Sanchi

Kamala Harris' full name is Kamala Devi Harris, "Kamala Devi" means the goddess of the lotus, "Devi" makes it explicit.

कमला has been a very popular female name. कमल has been a popular male name in India.

Agreed. Is it quite common that names ending "-a" are feminine in Sanskrit? I recall similar semantics in Latin. Avindra talk 21:46, 21 April 2021 (UTC) reply
