This is Excellent!

Just wanted to thank the minds behind this article. Very informative, good chronogoical order, written clearly and succinctly, doesn't do side tracks out of the scope of the focus of the article, and from the standpoint of actual writing, it is also well done. Thank you. Don't get enough of such excellent work when I come onto Wiki, but this seems to prove it is very doable, and can be done very well. Might be pointing back to it, when I'm arguing over "too much opinion" or "too confusing" for other articles I've helped with - or haven't helped with. lol

Your hard work is noticed and appreciated! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.197.124.137 ( talk) 19:44, 27 July 2009 (UTC) reply

I crossed out the word 'prodigious' from the phrase 'alcohol intake' because this word DOES NOT mean copious, abundant as one may think. Let us all be careful users of language! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.21.38.230 ( talk) 23:01, 5 March 2010 (UTC) reply

Welcome to Wikipedia... that's how things are around here.

In Ralph Gleason's "The Jefferson Airplane and the San Francisco Sound", Marty Balin is quoted as saying that Grace Slick's song-in-progress "Lather" was about Jack Casady. Has anyone asked Grace about this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 136.160.250.253 ( talk) 14:07, 2 April 2010 (UTC) reply

This article is currently a mess. It appears that someone with several personality/faction based axes to grind has got in and laced the entry with a lot of unsubstantiated opinions and factional attacks. It a big of a disgrace, actually. (FTR, I saw the Airplane 7 times, so I have a bit of skin in that game.) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dogmo1001 ( talkcontribs) 22:17, 4 January 2013 (UTC) reply

Signe Leaves the Band

The section where it says "Also Anderson was quickly pushed out of the band," etc has two problems. First of all, it is unsourced. It is a pretty bad thing to say about the guy, even if it was a long time ago, and there should be some proof or I would advise against saying it. Second of all, I bet that "quickly" was meant to be "quietly." 75.69.189.42 ( talk) 02:22, 30 October 2010 (UTC)Will in New Haven 75.69.189.42 ( talk) 02:22, 30 October 2010 (UTC) reply

Fixed. But this could be put back with an appropriate reference, I would think. Mudwater ( Talk) 03:09, 30 October 2010 (UTC) reply
what??? (A) where does it say this? (B) Signe is *female*. Ungghhh. Dunks ( talk) 08:16, 20 March 2013 (UTC) reply
"The guy" I was referring to was whomever had "quickly pushed" Anderson out of the band. I see now how that could be unclear, especially as it could have been more than one person 65.79.173.135 ( talk) 13:49, 18 July 2014 (UTC)Will in New Haven 65.79.173.135 ( talk) 13:49, 18 July 2014 (UTC) reply

Airplane in Vancouver

This article was very informative, but does state that the Jefferson Airplane did not play outside the Bay area until late 1966. They, in fact, played the the University of British Columbia at Brock Hall at noon on January 21, 1966 and again at The Armory on January 22. They also played at the Russian Community Centre January 21, 1966 in the evening. They also played at the Trips Festivals in Vancouver and Richmond that year, but I am unsure of the dates. Roy Seger

There is no reference to a Roy Seger ever having been a member of Jefferson Airplane in the liner notes to any album, or in the box set, or in the biography of the band Got A Revolution by Jeff Tamarkin, or in any interview with members of the band that I have come across. The two sentences regarding Seger in the body of the article have no reference citation. I have removed all mention of Seger from the article. PJtP ( talk) 14:24, 7 June 2013 (UTC) reply

Bay Area captain major elite donut

First sentence of the second paragraph of 1.1 Formation and early years mentions Kantner "...,had started out performing on the Bay Area captain major elite donut,..." would anybody be kind enough to explain the meaning the phrase is code for? Dirtclustit ( talk) 10:40, 31 March 2014 (UTC) reply

This article needs and deserves a rewrite

@ AbleGus: I respect all of your input, however this article is in desperate need for a full rewrite and expansion. The bulk of this article hasn't been updated since 2014 or earlier. It's messily written, has an insane amount of text that is either unsourced or poorly sourced, and is just generally underdeveloped. Jefferson Airplane deserve to have a good/featured article, and it'll never get there in its current state.

As for sourcing, I have three books: Got a Revolution!, Jefferson Airplane's on track book, and Take Me to a Circus Tent: The Jefferson Airplane Flight Manual. I agree that the article should have a diversity of references, however I was planning on using these books just to get down the band's general history before looking for additional sources to use for specific details. All of my edits are still a work in progress.

And as for the publication date of Got a Revolution!, my copy of the book reads "Copyright © 2003 by Jeff Tamarkin", but also "First Atria Books trade paperback edition July 2005". I will leave it at 2003 for now as I'm unsure which date to use in its citation.

I welcome any and all help, but please realize that this article is in dire straits. PianoUpMyNose ( talk) 13:30, 27 February 2022 (UTC) reply

Update: Maybe I'll work on the article in my sandbox until it's up to speed. I'll also look for more sources. PianoUpMyNose ( talk) 19:29, 27 February 2022 (UTC) reply

Hello, @ PianoUpMyNose. Thanks for starting a discussion on this subject. While I do not share your view that the entire article needs to be re-written outright, it could certainly be improved. If you work on it in your sandbox until ready, that would best best to avoid having an article that is a work in progress, which will lead to reversions and confusion.
I would say it is preferable to improve or add sentences within the existing framework and add new sources where needed, rather than generate a whole new article. There is some good information already included here, which could be improved and supplemented. I would also leave in the existing sources as they stand in the article. There is a good amount of diverse sources already in this article, and removing them just to wipe the slate clean is probably counterproductive.
I am going to ping @ Ritchie333: on the subject of whether a full rewrite for this article is needed. He knows the subject matter, and helped rewrite some of the Jefferson Starship article after a talk page discussion.
I am glad to help you improve the article, and if there is a consensus to redo it altogether, I will try to help with that process. Thanks for the good faith reversions of your most recent edits to the page while you begin working on it in your sandbox.
Regarding to the publication date of a reprinted book, I checked the citing sources page ( /info/en/?search=Wikipedia:Citing_sources#Dates_and_reprints_of_older_publications) and it recommends putting both for older sources. Not sure if that is warranted here, since it is only 2 years later from the original date and there is no mention that the edition was revised, so I will leave it as is, at least for now.

There is a mistake, in the intro "Marwan al-Shehhi" is included as a member of the group. He is a 9/11 terrorist, I don't think he has had a rock career and even less for Jefferson Airplane before his birth. Lostenta ( talk) 23:40, 28 July 2022 (UTC) reply

Thanks for the report. Mistake fixed. 9/11 terrorists do not usually have rock careers. Although I don't want to assume. TheOnlyEditorEver ( talk) 03:41, 29 July 2022 (UTC) reply

@ AbleGus: Opening this discussion again as my interest in improving this article has been rekindled. I've thought about it and now agree with you that the whole article doesn't need to be rewritten from scratch. Right now I'll work on getting it as good as it can be in its current state (sourcing, copy-editing, etc.) As usual, any help or input is appreciated.
