Merging

Being yet another absurd list (remember this is supposed to be an encyclopedia, not a directory of lists), this article should either be renamed List of Irish Americans in New York City or merged with List of Irish Americans. Khorshid 01:46, 4 April 2007 (UTC) reply

Well, I can agree with the list being a concern, the subject itself is quite valid, and should be covered appropriately. [1] is one book to look at, and there are probably others. FrozenPurpleCube 03:42, 4 April 2007 (UTC) reply

An article on Irish immigrants in New York is valid, but "Irish Americans in New York City"??? Like I wrote on the AfD, should we also have articles for "Anglo-Saxons of New York", "Jews of New York", "Jews of Los Angeles", "Persians of Los Angeles", "Persians of California", "Persians of Toronto", "Kurds of Toronto", "Jews of Montreal", "Mexicans of Calfornia", "Mexicans of New Mexico", "Germans of Illinois", "Dutch of Pennsylvania", etc etc??? If we were to make articles for every single local subgroup out there, it would be ridiculous. Thats not the purpose of an encyclopedia. People keep forgetting that Wikipedia is supposed to be an encyclopedia, not some haphazard pile of information about the most minute type of subject. Its bad enough we have episode guides, Pokeman crap, etc. It has to have a limit somewhere. At any rate, at this article is called "Irish Americans in NYC" - "Arabs of Khuzestan" is a horribly POV title, and as I suggested Iranian Arabs (the best choice) or even Iranian Arabs in Khuzestan would be better. Though to conform with other Wikipedia articles, Iranian Arabs is best. Do you think there would be support in the Israel articles for Arabs of Tel Aviv or Arabs of Haifa??? Actually, yes. New York City is quite established as a center of Irish immigration to the United States, and I have no objection to pages covering the other examples you bring up, provided they can be adequately sourced. Some of the pages you do mention do exist ( Pennsylvania Dutch, is one I know about). If those pages don't exist...this means nothing other than somebody hasn't taken the time to do it. That lack doesn't prove there shouldn't be any such pages. I would find such information quite useful. It is exactly the purpose of an encyclopedia, and if it's not, tell me why, don't just assert it. So far as it goes, you haven't been convincing. Heck, I have no problem with articles on Pokemon or television episodes. Wikipedia is not paper, and space is widely available. FrozenPurpleCube 19:13, 4 April 2007 (UTC) reply

Current v. History

The list of neighborhoods is ancient history. I've added the tag (current) and removed two neighborhoods that haven't been Irish in *at least* 30 years - Hell's Kitchen is now Yuppy Chelsea, and Inwood is now solidly Dominican. Bearian 17:58, 23 April 2007 (UTC) reply

Are "Irish gangs" really necessary and notable? Bearian 18:00, 23 April 2007 (UTC) reply
I am going through the list and getting cites. Where I find none, or know of none, it's out. I am Irish-American and from the Bronx. Bearian 19:37, 2 May 2007 (UTC) reply
I got at least 2 citations (from reliable soucres - i.e., NY Times, Village Voice, Forgotten NY) for each note on Manhattan, Brooklyn, The Bronx, and Staten Island. That's my contribution to this article. Can anyone find cites for the Queens neighborhoods? I'm not as familiar with Queens. Bearian 16:08, 18 May 2007 (UTC) reply

It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Can someone tell me why this is on a list about the Irish in New York?
