Etymology
It would be great if the article could explain the origin of the word "indenture" and how it changed its meaning from "toothed". Thank you.

Hi Maikel - It's due to the toothed edge where an indenture is torn into two (one piece for each party) - It's noted in the linked page
Indenture#Historical_usage -

Indentured servitude in the United Kingdom (and maybe more widely in Europe?)
I'm drafting a section on indentured farm labour in the UK, but I wonder if there was also indentured servitude elsewhere in Europe? Any inputs would be appreciated, either on the UK section or on Europe more widely - Thanks -
In the U.S... the 13th Amendment carves out a special provision for slavery and involuntary servitude.

Thirteenth Amendment
Section 1
Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.
Section 2
Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. I'm also not sure how this fits with mandatory military service (the draft), which is still legal in the U.S. though not implemented beyond registering men on their 18th birthday.
