"I Walk Alone" Confused With "I'll Walk Alone"

The country song "I Walk Alone" should not be confused with the popular song " I'll Walk Alone" by Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn, recorded in 1944 by Dinah Shore. Having listened to both, I am certain that Styne and Cahn should not be listed as writers here, nor in the article on Willie Nelson's album My Own Peculiar Way. To make matters more confusing, the title "I'll Walk Alone" was also given to Willie Nelson's Liberty Records version of the Herbert Wilson song, which was recorded in the early 1960s but not released until 1975 on the album Country Willie and later on There'll Be No Teardrops Tonight. I wish I could cite http://www.allmusic.com/album/the-early-years-the-complete-liberty-recordings-plus-more-r199701 Disc 2, track 27; but unfortunately, it erroneously lists Cahn and Styne as the song's composers. I have listened to the sample at http://www.amazon.com/Early-Years-Willie-Nelson/dp/B000008IUY and there is no doubt that this is a version of Herbert Wilson's "I Walk Alone." Update 22 December 2011: I have submitted a correction to Allmusic in hopes of making my reliable sources more reliable. There is another possible source of confusion: I recently came across a Marty Robbins performance of "I'll Walk Alone" by Styne and Cahn on YouTube. Furthermore, I have no idea why "I Walk Alone" is included in Category: Songs with lyrics by Roy Turk. Preservationist957 ( talk) 06:56, 26 October 2011 (UTC) reply

Edit summary

Modified the opening sentence, but agree with the original author that the song's notability derives from the chart success of the Marty Robbins version. Mainly added the new section Other Versions with references and removed Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn as writers in the infobox. Avoided the question of whether the Ernest Tubb version might be older than the Eddy Arnold single until reliable sources can be found. Ernest Tubb enthusiasts: Your input would be welcome! Ernest Tubb Update: Found the missing detail at Praguefrank's Country Music Discographies Tubb Ernest under Sessions, edited the Other Versions section accordingly. Preservationist957 ( talk) 16:50, 6 January 2012 (UTC) reply
