I'm not including this in the habitat section, as it is original and undocumented research, but over the past five years I've had numerous California slender salamanders living in leaf litter and even damp newsprint on my small patio in the middle of the Mission District. The wording of the Habitat section seems to suggest that their urban occurrence is novel. My assumption upon finding them miles from any significantly damp park (closest 'natural' park was in Bernal Heights, on a mostly treeless and dry-ish knob), is that they can't be uncommon in San Francisco.
If anyone can back this assumption up with references, please correct/expand this section of the article. Erie lhonan 22:01, 10 October 2011 (UTC)
