Hewlett vs Packard coin toss

Wikipedia needs factual content. The founders' coin toss is disputed. The true version must be located in a reliable source and correctly cited. Failing this, the mention f the coin toss episode will be deleted.-- Kudpung ( talk) 13:02, 29 November 2010 (UTC) reply

Incorrect spelling of middle name

William (Bill) Hewlett's middle name is spelled "Redington" Only one "d". I don't seem to be able to edit your heading. Please go to the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation website to verify this if you wish. Fewill51 ( talk) 03:16, 1 December 2011 (UTC) reply

William Redington HewlettBill Hewlett – Hewlett's full name is not WP:COMMONNAME, because "William Redington Hewlett" gets only 12.4k Google results. He was most popularly known as "Bill" - as "Bill Hewlett" "Hewlett Packard" gets 71.5k Google results. "William R. Hewlett" "Hewlett Packard" gets only 17k.

At first I was inclined to request a move to "William R. Hewlett" due to most news sources using "William" upon his passing in 2001. The Associated Press [1], Los Angeles Times [2], The New York Times [3], and San Francisco Chronicle [4] used "William Hewlett" in their obituaries, and the San Jose Mercury News used "William Hewlett" in the headline and "William R. Hewlett" in the story [5]. Biography.com's entry about him is " William R. Hewlett", and Encyclopedia Britannica uses " William Hewlett."

However, Hewlett was far more commonly known as Bill, as indicated in the google search result numbers. The books Bill & Dave: How Hewlett and Packard Built the World's Greatest Company ( Michael S. Malone, 2007) and Becoming Hewlett Packard: Why Strategic Leadership Matters (2016, Robert A. Burgelman, Webb McKinney, Philip E. Meza) use Bill instead of William. Entrepreneur magazine says that Hewlett and co-founder David Packard were affectionately known within their company as "Bill and Dave." Packard's 1996 bestselling memoir uses "Bill" in the title: The HP Way: How Bill Hewlett and I Built Our Company. Arbor to SJ ( talk) 17:24, 6 July 2018 (UTC) reply
