Mengly J. Quach Education is parent company of Aii Language Center (Aii) and American Intercon School (AIS) founded in 2005 by Mengly J. Quach. [1]

History

In 2005, Mengly J. Quach founded The Mengly J. Quach Education. Its Aii Language Center and American Intercon School, [2] engage in education, health care, food, media and financial services. It started with 20 students in 2005 [3] and by 2023, his educational programs had grown from a single classroom with just students into one of Cambodia's biggest educational networks, with fifteen school buildings, over 2,0000 students, more than 2,300 staff and 55,000 alumni. [4] Mengly J Quach Education Plc officially listed on the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX) on June 28, 2023, becoming the 11th equity-listed firm that issued its IPO on the kingdom’s bourse. The company issued 9,966,127 shares, in which a share cost 2,080 riels ($0.5), according to the firm’s data filed to CSX. The proceeds from the IPO amounted to $5 million dollars. [5] [6] [7] [8]

Aii Language Center

Aii Language Center (Aii) is a North American Standard based center specializing in languages and is one of the biggest English language centers in Cambodia. [9] Aii offers various programs, including English, Diploma Course, Chinese and Thai language training programs, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) preparation course, TESOL House and i-Learn English. It operates in seven campuses in Phnom Penh, one campus in Siem Reap and one campus in Takeo, Cambodia. [10]

Aii History

Aii Language Center (Aii) is a subsidiary Mengly J. Quach Education. [11] and a sister company of American Intercon School. [12] It was founded by Mengly Jandy Quach in Phnom Penh in 2005. [13] It started with only 20 students in 2005 [14] and by 2022, Aii has over 9,000 students studying in 6 campuses in Phnom Penh, one campus in Siem Reap and one campus in Takeo and over 50,000 alumni. [15]

During Covid-19 period

Since the pandemic began, most schools did not have enough tuition fees to cover paying wages, rents, utilities and interest on loans and they would have to suspend their operations. Rental fees were the biggest issue, and while there were some supports from the government and financial institutions, these simply were not enough. As an educational institution, funding requires more than just solely the tuition fee. It also relied on the school bus, food, uniforms, books and other administration fees to support the business model. [16] [17] Like other private schools, Aii was struggling with financial hardship during Covid-19 period. In a meeting of Cambodian Higher Education Association, Mengly J. Quach stated that he tried to negotiate with the building owner, while other school owners have also attempted similar negotiations without any success. Thus, numerous private schools in Cambodia were expected to go bankrupt since many of them took loans to open their schools. [18]

During the COVID-19 pandemic which hit hard on Cambodia and its education sector, Aii continued its distant teaching activities. It plans to expand its campus to Siem Reap which will be its first provincial campus. [19]

American Intercon School

American Intercon School (AIS; Khmer: សាលារៀនអន្តរទ្វីបអាមេរិកាំង) is a private general education school accredited by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports with a Khmer-American curriculum from Preschool to Grade 12. [20] It operates in seven campuses in Phnom Penh, one campus in Siem Reap and one campus in Takeo, Cambodia. American Intercon School is a subsidiary of Mengly J. Quach Education [21] and a sister company to Aii language center. [22] It was founded in Phnom Penh on October 10, 2005, by Mengly Jandy Quach. [23] American Intercon School is divided into four sections: Preschool (Preschool and Kindergarten), Elementary (from Grade 1 to Grade 6), Junior High School (Grade 7 to Grade 9 and High School (Grade 10 to 12). The academic year at the American Intercon School is divided into two semesters beginning in the middle of August, and the beginning of January. [24] The School emphasizes the transmission soft skills in an effort to provide holistic education to its students. [25]

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (Cambodia) allowed American Intercon School to prepare for the ASEAN's Quality Education award held in Brunei in 2015. [26]

The School had developed to eight campuses across the Phnom Penh City, Siem Reap and Takeo provinces with an enrollment of over 9,930 students in 2022-2023. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the founder of the school, Mengly Jandy Quach warned that "the pandemic itself was not the biggest problem for schoolchildren but the mental and physical trauma they had to go through with keeping up their studies via online and staying home for so long." [27] the American Intercon School was part of select schools to remain open in July 2020, due to compliance to official rules of the Ministry for Health. [28] While calling for prudence, Quach also alerted the government on the urgent need to reopen schools in Cambodia because of the very limited access of the population to technologies used for online learning. [29]
