This special liveried aircraft is unusual in that it is powered by General Electric CF6-series engines rather than the usual Rolls Royce RB211 series Qantas normally specifies.
It had originally been built in 1993 as Asiana Airlines' first all-passenger 747, registered HL7416. The Asian Financial Crisis forced Asiana to give up the aircraft, and it has been flying for Qantas ever since. Sister ship HL7418, built in 1994, remains in Asiana service, and Asiana took delivery of HL7428 later in 1998 to replace HL7416. Asiana did specify General Electric engines for its 747 fleet, hence the CF6-series engines on this aircraft even in Qantas service.
