The United States declared war on Germany on April 6, 1917. In this photo, Polish Americans from the Detroit Veterans association who joined the Polish Army overseas, then fought in France and Poland in-and-after World War I. It is estimated that around 20,000 to 25,000 Polish men from North America (many trained in Canada) volunteered on the western front. From photo essay re Polish American community.
