Alaplı is a town in Zonguldak Province in the Black Sea region of Turkey. It is the seat of Alaplı District. [2] Its population is 20,777 (2022). [1] It is the westernmost town in Zonguldak Province and is located about 15 km (9.3 mi) south of Karadeniz Ereğli. The mayor is Nuri Tekin ( CHP). It consists of 6 neighbourhoods: Aşağıdoğancılar, Merkez, Yeni Siteler, Karşıyaka, Tepeköy and Yenimahalle. [3]

Facts

Alaplı is situated at the mouth of the Alaplı River. It is an ancient town known in the Hellenistic period as Kale ( Ancient Greek: Καλή). Also, there is a huge colosseum near Alaplı Lake, used for lion-warrior fights for the ruler of the land itself.[ clarification needed]

This city is the hometown of the musician and guitarist Gurkan Zengin.[ citation needed] Gurkan Zengin is now in a group called Mozaik, which works with singer, Tuğberk Isik, known for his performance for singing 'Kadinim' song.[ citation needed]

There is a large statue of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk on the seafront at Alaplı.
