Henrik Shipstead defected to the
Republican Party of Minnesota from the
Farmer–Labor Party of Minnesota, and defeated former
Governor
Elmer Benson of the Farmer–Labor Party and John E. Regan of the
Minnesota Democratic Party to win a fourth term.
